elephant mammogram....

this is from a few months ago....actually the beginning of june....as i sit here waiting for daylight i finally got the pix off my phone---captured the situation better than my camera---and figured i'd write about this finally....

so beginning of june i got my LAST mammogram ever---seriously i will never EVER do that again...first one i had (this would be my second) was at akron general and it DID NOT HURT....i had no idea why people bitched about them....now i do....this time i went to city hospital, since i no longer trust akron general, and it was beyond painful and barbaric....the woman said that akron general did them the same way and no, they don't.....when i said i'd never get another one she said "you have too!"....the fuck i do!!! my doctor pretty much said the same thing....she got the same reply....

akron city did not call the day before to denote you shouldn't wear deordorant....i remembered that from years prior and confirmed that with mr. google....when i got there, they didn't even tell me then!! buried behind a bunch of gowns was a sign saying to use a wipe to remove deodorant....there were no wipes....

a few days before this tit crushing experience i had lugged an air conditioner up to the computer room---yes, i have a window AC in here now....since the AC weighed about 50#s and at the time i weighed about 90# it was a struggle to get up stairs and as i sort of dragged it up the steps the box was braced on the inside of my legs.....

pix from my phone looked better than pix from camera, but even these don't quite capture all the bruising....

so i've got all these bruises on the inside of my legs....the mammogram woman asks me what happened and somewhere from my apparent very dark twisted subconscious, before i get the words out that i had hauled an AC up to the 2nd floor, i blurted out "i was gang raped by elephants"....her face was quite a sight....she didn't ask a follow up and continued her torture.....i bet my face was a sight too, cuz i was thinking 'where dafuq did that come from?'....

when i told my doctor that of course she laughed....she made me tell the other office staff who also laughed....one said she bet that tech was telling that to everyone and i surmised that perhaps not, cuz who the hell said anything like THAT?!?!?!? apparently i do.....

Mammograms cause cancer
It's been established for several years that mammograms lead to overdiagnosis and treatment, and yes, they've been found to cause cancer.

I haven't had one for several years, and doubt I will again. Do I have breast cancer in my family? Yeah, my father's sister died of breast cancer and it was awful.

Speaking of cancer, my roommate died on August 21st of complications of cancer—cause of death was congestive heart failure that was a result of a heart attack several years ago that resulted from cancer treatment.

Re: Mammograms cause cancer
Watching other people die from conventional cancer treatments makes me wonder how worthwhile it might be to make yourself sick to kill a few cancer cells.

Richard survived about 10 years with his cancer; he was 83 when he died and it wasn't the cancer per se that killed him but congestive heart failure brought on by a heart attack he had had as a result of cancer treatment. I just wrote an obituary for him and sent it to The Villager, the local paper of record in this neighborhood.

On August 21, Richard Kopperdahl died at the age of 83 after a long battle with cancer. Cause of death was congestive heart failure.

Richard worked for over 20 years at the Village VOICE in the production department, and in that time wrote several cover stories that earned him something of a cult following:
Bettervue Hospital (which was re-run a couple of weeks ago with a foreword by colleague and friend Bob Baker), The Bowery Remembered, about his years living on the Bowery before it was cool, Old Fashion Guy, about being scouted as a runway model for Donna Karan, and Living Sober, which was a supplement and introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous that he wrote under the pseudonym "Dick K."

He had also been a technology reviewer for the VOICE's
Electromag and Technomag supplements.

He had retired in 2001 and spent his last years eating breakfast every day at the Odessa restaurant on Avenue A; prior to that he had been a breakfast regular at Around the Clock on Stuyvesant street until they closed, and before that he ate at Dojo on St. Mark's place every day.

Viewing of the body was at Peter Jarema Funeral Home on August 26th, and a memorial service will be held in the coming weeks.

Kinky. Bruises are sexy, if consensual of course (I'm assuming the AC was a willing participant). ;)
