Halloweenie In Kent 2008

Did not get as cold as it usually does Saturday night...so good!! Did finally get excited around 10pm when we first got down there. Alas that buzz was ruined by psychocunts who didn't want their picture taken--and whom proceeded to try to get Eddie's camera away from him, they even called 911, and one kept proclaiming she was a journalism major and "sunshine laws say you can't take photos without permission"...au contraire you worthless twit...anyway....i'll get into that with my narrative and pix pix pix pix and a couple videos....

okay...firstly...i REALLY wish kent would ban outside smoking...seriously....kent of all places hasn't banned outside smoking...i came home reeking of cigarette smoke and could still taste it Sunday, BLAH...yes yes i have friends who smoke and i know many of you smoke, but YUCKO!!!

anyway....crowdwise...there was more people dressed up this year than last year, but there was about 5,000 less than last year...it started getting REALLY packed around 11:30pm and in the past few years it's gotten packed around 10:30pm or before....we think there was confusion re: when it was, as most people probably assumed it was going to be this friday as that is really halloweenie, ya know?? so we will see how many people are downtown friday...yes i shall go!

Costume wise i have to say 'creativity' and 'originality' was somewhat lacking...oh there was glimmers, but i dunno....lots of 'jokers' but i am sure that was to be expected...so disappointing creativity wise and i'm having difficulty determining a 'winner'...i'm sure i'll pick something though...

Downtown went all out this year....they closed off the bank plaza for some kind of family halloween thing from 6:30-8:30, but then after that they were doing a costume contest BUT they would only let costumed people in there! what the fuck???? no, it was free too, so why couldn't everyone go in there?? i think the gate keepers there were really into their characters as 'assholes' Saturday night....

besides that fuckery, they had projections on buildings....new thing this year and it was very very cool...i like the witch the best...and the city of kent STILL maintains this is 'unofficial'....so uh why did the city close off the bank plaza? why did the city put the projections on the buildings?? nitwits...i got a bad cold so i'm cantankerous....

pumpkin on one building...

witch on another...my favorite....

self-explanatory...

ghost...

lots of towing!! we always park at walgreens and walk down....and once AGAIN citizens of kent are bitching about how they couldn't drive downtown Saturday night and how people were in the street...you stupid fucks, avoid driving thru downtown and if you want to look at costumes get your fat ass out of your car AND WALK!!! you cannot keep thousands of peoples on sidewalks!!! and obviously the police don't have an issue with people taking over the street as they do nothing about the traffic jams or the people in the street....around 12:30am the cops were ready to block off Franklin Ave. to vehicle traffic though...

this guy's beer pong costume kept folding over and hitting the other half---as you can tell by how the lower half cups are disarrayed...

michael phelps...he was mid swim if you couldn't tell....

this guy is down there every year...didn't see the usual bag of weed or the 'american gothic' couple, those are 'regulars' too...perhaps they'll be out on the 31st....oh and santa skulls regular partner 'evil elf' was there too...not in pix though...the evil elf can be glimpsed in another pix further down....

tin man, REAL ax!

scarecrow, real cigar!

lifeguard who forgot to wax...what was sort of creepy about this, no no not the costume cuz i found that beavis and butthead amusing...but what was creepy was the guy dressed up as this lifeguard was saying that drunk frat guys were hitting on him and he thought they were serious...i bet they were...

before i went to eddie's i drove thru downtown to see how crowded it was---and no, i didn't complain about being backed up in traffic like many of those in kent do! i knew what to expect traffic wise!!

anyhalloweenie, when i drove thru they had a band playing in the gazebo...something else that the 'unofficial' kent halloweenie gathering has been doing too...the city issues permits for the bands to perform, unofficially of course...they usually have about 3 or 4 bands play...when i drove thru there was a band playing 99 luft balloons sooooooooooooooooo badly it would have made you prefer the sound of nails on a blackboard...i didn't pull out the video camera for that as traffic actually moved quickly away from the gazebo (gee, did the band have anything to do with that??)...

when we were walking around about an hour later another band had taken the stage at the gazebo....no, you can't really see in this video, but you need to HEAR...yes yes you do....this is BETTER than the 99 luft balloon band...not saying much....

are these costumes or not??? i mean they're wearing some halloween themed jewelry, but they seem awfully comfortable in the leash get up....it is kent...so anything goes, halloween or not....

statue of liberBEE...haha....

break dancers....they were going around putting down the cardboard and break dancing for a bit and then going down the street and stopped and did it again....they were very good....

gnome in bar...he needs to get back in my yard and do some work!

omnious...these guys didn't speak at all...not even amonst each other...they would just point....

village people...they were waiting to get into ray's...no singing/dancing this year...and yeah, lots of people were standing in lines to get into the bars....why?? the state fire marshall is in kent every halloween to ensure that maximum occupancy is not exceeded so bars limit the number of people who can go in, but seriously...who would want to spend the evening in line??

i dunno what this lady was..but i like the feather headdress...

here's my token political pix..only obama we saw too...unless the obama bin laden counts? there was quite a few palins...i didn't see any with a 'baby' but i read in the news that there was one palin with a baby doll....points to them for that...

aforementioned obama bin laden...

overheard: 2 guys walking together...i think they were trying to be, well i am unsure...they looked like gay arobeic instructors but they were having a verbal spat and the one said "you're tossing out negative energy"...so maybe they weren't dressed up as gay arobeic instructors...

speaking of gay...here's someone as 80's era George Michael...no sign of andrew ridgley...just as well, never liked him anyway...i told this george to avoid public bathrooms...he laughed...

these might not have been 'costumes' either...it IS kent after all...so they are either 'real' hippies or halloweenie hippies...but i liked their protest signs!!

a yellow submarine...he had a boombox inside the front part of his submarine playing yellow submarine on a loop!

look, here's the submarine, a homemade robot? and i think that's a blimp to the right of the picture...

there was quite a few guys dressed as russians...they had the big furry hat, black pants, black pea coat and affecting russian accents (yes they were pretending cuz they would talk 'normal' eventually)...what is that in reference too? they weren't together as a group either....i'd say i saw about 9 or so 'russian' guys....no clue what it was about either...

Just for TAMMY!!! a homemade sushi outfit! the 'rice' is made from packing peanuts!! I wanted to take another pix from the side, but couldn't because so many people were walking on the sidewalk...

upon first happening upon this guy i thought he just had a golf ball in his head--very good makeup---but no, when i said that that must have hurt, he said the golf club in his ass hurt more...indeed....but how the hell do you get a golf club up your ass?

okay let's have a video interlude here...i know it's sort of dark, but you can hear and see a bit....it still wasn't that crowded when i filmed this, but here's what it like crossing the street and coming across the hari krishna band (i've been debating for years if they are in costume or not...they very well could be real hari krishnas...and yes, they're downtown every year too...)

when we first got downtown we saw about half a dozen people with DOGS...why the fuck would you take your DOG down to a huge crowd??? all dogs we saw looked scared too....fortunate for the owners i was not around them or i would have asked what the fuck they were thinking!

the pumpkin something...is this from a movie? or just creative? interesting nonetheless....if i recall correctly this has been downtown before too...

big boy! he very happily posed for a pix! i dunno what the burger was made of...should have asked...i see the cheese & pickles are from sponges...notice that?

a cat & a bag of catnip...creative!

this chick had to have been cold....once again there was a multitude of half naked chicks...saw some barefoot chicks too as they couldn't handle wearing high heels...it was in the low 40s and that is just too cold to be half naked and barefoot...but i guess they wanted to suffer for their 'art'...commendable i suppose...

speaking of half naked chicks....here's the tale of PSYCHOCUNTS...

so we walked down franklin and turned up college to get back onto water street and continue our loop around downtown---yes you just walk around downtown over and over and over again....yes yes it IS fun...so college street didn't have that many peoples on it...

there was a group of half dressed girls with a guy dressed as a chicken (though i think he was a chicken in real life too)....there was other camera weilding people coming from the other directions....eddie & i had stopped to take pix of the ominious guys (pictured a ways above this)...the girls stopped to pose for the other camera people but one of the chicks was so drunk she fell over and started yelling "don't you take my picture like this"...well of COURSE everyone started taking her picture!! the other camera people kept going towards franklin and we continued to water street....

this chick was FLIPPING OUT....they were in front of us and kept yelling at us "i'm a journalism major and it's a violation of the sunshine laws to take someone's picture without permission"....here's a link to ohio sunshine laws...they deal with the GOVERNMENT, not taking pictures of drunk half dressed psychocunts!

so she's yelling and screaming about this and eddie yelled back "don't dress up then" but oh no! she can dress up and no one can take her picture without permission....i told her to look for herself on misstia.com and eddie kept taking pictures....she came up to eddie, pictured here, yes that is me in the bandana (had skulls on it!)...right after he took this picture she tried to grab his camera from his hands!!!

we both told her that was assault...eddie has a cast on one hand too....she kept flipping out and said she was gonna call the cops...well fine call the cops...SHE was going to call the cops cuz we took her picture without permission!!! so we turned onto erie street from water (by the court house) and they kept following us...

the psychocunt, her name was abbie, kept saying i called 911...okay fine...there's plenty of cops downtown already though....eddie & i kept trying to go back to taking pictures---like hundreds of other people were doing!! but no, psychocunt stayed right by us going on and on how she's a journalism major and we were violating the sunshine laws....she's obviously never heard of freedom of the press either...

anyway, we started up main street and saw a group of cops....finally....considering that there are always cops around for about 10 minutes we saw none while this psychocunt kept harassing us...."sunshine laws" "journalism major" "i'm a total retard" oh wait..she didn't SAY the last, just implied....so we see the cops and go up the street and this psychocunt takes HER camera and sticks it about 1 inch from my eye and takes a pix with the flash---now i would never do that to anyone, in someone's EYE??!?!?!? fortunate for her the cops were in sight, though gee whiz, i lost my balance with the flash and fell into her and she fell down, again...aw, poor psycho cunt....

so we get to the cops and she starts "They took my picture without permission and they violated the sunshine laws"....the cops told them to walk away....she kept protesting and eddie told the cop to give her a breathalyzer....the guy dressed as the chicken finally got her to walk away....nope....cops said not a word about us taking pictures CUZ IT IS LEGAL TO DO SO...not to mention there were even people walking around with video cameras...newspapers were there, news crews, etc....

here's psychocunt ABBIE with the cops and one of her psychocunt friends behind her....she was probably too drunk to remember my website addy, but hey abbie if you see this---YOU ARE A PSYCHOCUNT AND A TOTAL TWIT AND I HOPE YOU ARE NOT A JOURNALISM MAJOR CUZ YOU KNOW NOTHING!

okay...back to regular halloweenie post activities...

this group was HAPPY to get their pix taken, most people are....that's me on the far left...yellow raincoat....camera in hand!

eddie took this pix, not i....but yes i am posting it....an used kotex...i wonder what makes a GUY go as an used kotex?? ya know??

oompa loompas...have the song stuck in your head yet?? OOMPA LOOMPA...

i think the hand on this person was to take them back to the psych ward...this might or might not be a costume...haha...i am sure it is....is one? or not one? shan't say....

homemade rubik cubes....guess she's smarting than him since she got hers put together...unless of course she didn't even try to mess her ups...it's a puzzle....

nice little family portrait here...the little wolf?? he/she would bark at everyone!! you can see skull in back and you can see the back of the evil elf...

the costume SAYS dirty martini...but when did martinis start coming wrapped in aluminum foil looking like hoagies?

i like the ghoul's makeup, but most of all his presence...he just stood there for awhile before moving on to stand in another spot for awhile...

alice in wonderland with a curious tattoo, i'm on the left...is that tat suppose to be there? is that some feminist uterine empowerment tattoo? or what??? don't know if the tat is real or temporary either...very wonderlandish...

amy winehouse in her pre-crack embodiment---when she had a body....

little bo peep with one sheep...dunno where the rest of her flock was....

teenage ninja mutant turtles....all 4 were there together but 2 were too drunk to get in the picture...

okay, eddie's camera's lense cover got stuck part way hence the border....but that chick had a total wedgy!! and that table on the left?? some downtown church set that up with free coffee and cocoa and cookies!! very christian of them--in the truest sense of christianity...no mention of religion either....they also had heaters and soup inside....i got some cocoa and a cookie...the sidewalks aren't very crowded here cuz this was at the far end of water street by haymaker parkway....

gangster amish and if that's not an oxymoron, i dunno what is...

what exactly is this costume? i dunno...but he saw eddie with his camera and said "do you want to take my picture?" so eddie did...he saw me and asked me the same...i said i'd get the pix off eddie's camera....

eddie likes to find the pregnant nuns...this one is most interesting cuz it's a pregnant MALE nun....

a gondoler! never saw one of them before!! there must have been a swift current cuz he was moving too quick to get a pix of him in the front, hence the back shot...but you get the idea...

2 gangster ladies who were happy to have their picture taken...

jesus and ZIGGY STARDUST!!! YEAH!! jesus was about ready to light a cigarette but he put it away cuz he said it wouldn't be appropriate for jesus to be pictured smoking!! Ziggy would be a finalist if it wasn't for the nike symbol on his outfit...i mean ziggy stardust marketing nike???

finalists....

alas...it has been really hard for me to pick a winner....not as much creativity as usual....or maybe it was there and i missed it?? glimmers of it though...glimmers....but i have muddled through and picked winners...yes not as creative as usual...but you do the best with what you get...

Honorable Mention

okay...i realize that the pig and the masked character are from saw movies...and perhaps the camo bush and scarecrow creature is also---are they?? are they from a movie?? yeah i dunno...

we know i usually don't like costumes based on horror films, but these are finalists because they would go around downtown and park like this for up to 30 minutes and NOT MOVE! even when people went up to them, they wouldn't move!! they are finalists cuz of their 'stage prescense'...especially the pig in the bushes...

Honorable Mention

i think this killer clown is from a movie too?? but she gets honorable mention because of her makeup....that is one of the best makeup jobs i have ever seen on halloweenie

Honorable Mention

when we first got to kent and were crossing haymarker parkway to get downtown these 2 guys were in front of us looked strangely familar...i said "ricky? bubbles?" yep....trailer park boys!! They were really excited someone recognized them!!! i asked if they were gonna get some ja-lop-a-no chips and bubbles correctly corrected me with the right lines from the show and ricky knew his lines too!! yeah!!!

Ricky and Bubbles!!!

3rd place

operation...i never seen an operation costume before...it is homemade and creative!!! i like it!!

2nd place

nosferatu!!! never saw a nosferatu before!! and he really carries it off well with the perfect pose! hence 2nd place!

AND THE WINNER................

rollarcoaster! yes, a rollarcoaster....now no you can't really see anything in this video---vaguely---but LISTEN...the lead guy was doing the drill they do before rollercoaster rides start---though throwing in things about missing limbs isn't standard....they were stop on the street corners and do this spiel and then rollarcoaster their way up to the next time...they would move like they were going up and down on a rollar coaster too!

thus concludes my halloweenie post....we'll see if anyone dresses up friday october 31....
